This is the best collection of sci-fi-short stories I have read in a very long time. Every story was tightly written, with good, strong characters and a cohesive plot line. Although each one was different, they collectively provided a good read. Five golden quills to the authors!!

One of the best qualities of an anthology is variety, and this collection definitely delivers. The central theme is the end of the world, which is weaved within the trappings of mythology, film noir, science fiction, horror, fantasy, and more.
While all the entries stand firm on their own merits, three in particular have some resonance for me "Black Market Magic" by Hildy Silverman, "Norman's Ark" by Roy A. Mauritsen, and "Hollow (Be Careful What You Wish For)" by Matt Schiariti all contain ordinary characters that are very identifiable, which makes it all the more easy to get absorbed into the bizarre situations they find themselves confronting. But for their supernatural surroundings, they could very well be real people.
With strong storytelling and a broad genre appeal, APOCALYPSE 13 has something to please just about everyone. Highly recommended to any and all fans!
I particularly enjoyed "Rangnarok and Roll" by Keith R.A. DeCandido. It was original, fun and exciting. The Key West setting was viivd and, because I don't want to risk a spoiler, I'll just say that the plot develops with unexpected twists and turns. I was immediately fond of the first person voice. The other stories in the collection were a mixed bag — some better than others. I enjoy this sort of collection as an introduction to new authors.
Most of the stories are well written with interesting tales. As with most anthologies there are some duds, but most of the stories here hold up well. I particularly enjoyed newcomer Matt Schiariti's Hollow and its take on the three wish genre. I also thought the introduction was a nice twist.
A great collection of stories. After finishing this, I went off to check out a number of the individual authors for their own work. That's exactly what I want out of a book of short stories.
