This is a very fast read. Moore has a very engaging prose style and the narrative clips right along. The concept behind the book -- what aging people want (or don't) -- is a good one and there are some moving moments in the book. But overall it was something of a letdown and the big plot twist to at the end just didn't work. I don't regret reading it and there are certain types of people (e.g.60-somethings like me) who will appreciate it but it's not for everyone.

How you feel about this short quick read (it's really more of a novella than a novel) might depend on how old you are. Moore has a very spare writing style and a sly wit but this is more an essay on aging than anything else. Lewis is not as well rounded a character as you may be accustomed to but I think that might be the point. Interesting but likely not everyone's cup of tea. THanks to Edelweiss for the ARC.
Another wonderful and haunting read from Alison Moore. The simplicity of the text perfectly underlies the thought provoking content.
If you like to think even when you've finished reading, read this.
Aging happens. Regret happens. For most of us, regret is focused not on the things you have done, but on the things you haven’t. He Wants represents the inner dialogue of three generations all hurtling towards the abyss.

This slim volume is well written and will be both funny and sad for anyone over fifty. It’s not worth not reading Alison Moore.
