Paw Enforcement A Paw Enforcement Novel Diane Kelly Books

Megan Luz, a Ft. Worth police officer tazers her jerk male partner right in the gonads after one too many smart remarks. Because he’s such a putz, the police chief gives her a second chance – forcing her to partner with a police dog. They get off to a rough start. Brigit, her partner, keeps eating her shoes, and humping all the other dogs in training class. And Megan keeps getting thrown off her stride by a handsome bomb squad member, Seth. Brigit keeps throwing Seth’s dog, Blast, off his stride by humping him every chance she gets. Most of their job is routine, but when a bomb goes off at the mall food court, where Megan and Brigit eat lunch every day, Megan gets to help solve the crime.

I had a love/dislike relationship with this book. What I didn’t like: The policing aspects are very … thin. It’s almost like the author went to one citizen’s academy and decided to write a book about a canine officer. Also, Megan’s favorite expression when something gross happens is “blurgh.” I stopped counting after five uses. I hope Megan finds a new expression of disgust, and soon.

What I did like: I was drawn in by the cover and the entertaining title. The book is told from three points of view – Megan’s, Bridgit’s, and the bomber. I loved the alternate points of view Megan and Bridgit have over the same occurrence. The bomber, not so much, so I just skimmed his sections. The dialogue is clever and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny (earning me some strange looks from the people on the treadmills next to me at the gym. The characters are interesting and entertaining. And there’s a light touch of romance, both human and canine, that adds to the fun. These charms outweighed the thing policing background and the overuse of “blurgh.” I would read more in this series.

Paw Enforcement A Paw Enforcement Novel Diane Kelly Books Reviews

A young policewoman with a chip on her shoulder, a mountain of student debt, and an explosive temper, discovers that tasering her sexist-pig partner in the balls is not the way to advance her career. In fact, the only way to save her career is by agreeing to take on a K-9 partner. Bridget, Top a Dog at the K-9 academy gets stuck with a rookie, and it's going to take lots of patience- and a closet full of shoes aka chew toys - to get her trained.

A fun story! Downloading book 2 immediately!
The first question posed on the review page for "Paw Enforcement is "How would you describe the plot of this book?" Unfortunately only three possible answers are provided, none of which are "What plot?"

The novel begins well enough but quickly devolves into a tedious rendition of the daily routine of a patrol officer and glimpses of individuals encountered along the way. Very little of substance available here.
I just finished Paw and Order by Diane Kelly and it's a super book. Megan Luz, a police rookie has aspirations of being a detective. She has one little problem - working with a partner. The book opens with her partner, Derek 'The Dick' Mackey, lying on the floor, twisting and gyrating and in convulsions. And why you ask? Great question! One, because he's a jerk and two, because Megan just tasered him. I was hooked at that point. Well, needless to say, Megan is called into the Chief's office and despite her pleas, is given a new partner. Like I said, Megan doesn't want a partner but if she refused, the Chief will take her badge and gun and she's done. So Megan stubbornly agrees. Her new partner has unique abilities like being able to sniff out drugs and chase down and tackle suspects. And you guessed it, Bridget is a K-9 police dog and she's now partnered with Megan. Neither of them are happy about it but they have to make a go of it. They are required to attend a 6 week training class and on the first day, Bridget makes herself known by humping most of the other canines in the group. Since she is the only female, the other officers are not keen on the fact the Megan is allowing her to do that. And so it begins - the girls meet Seth and Blast from the Bomb Squad. Hunky and hot, the girls fall for them hard. Then we have the Rattler who is placing bombs all over the city. So, it's up to Megan and Bridget to find the bomber before he strikes again. Read the book to find out how it all ends. Five stars - a great read.
Overall I liked this book and took it for what it was - a comedy. There were anomalies in the plot - a young officer only 6 months into the police force would never get a police dog! I don't think a police dog would have been dumped out in the winter and there was no history about the dog. At one stage the training officer says that the dog was her best pupil and I can't imagine that the dog wouldn't have been returned to the force if not wanted.

A lot of unlikely coincidences - but the story was a pleasant read.
Okay, got this book on a whim. I saw a recommendation for it, and I think I caught it on a free day special.

Enjoyed the story line. I had some problems with how the main K9 was introduced. I'm from that area of Texas. Brigit was introduced as having been left out in the Texas winter, ground frozen over for day...no food, no water. My problem with this. We have weather like that maybe 5 days... a year.
And no one wanting a 95lb dog... In a heartbeat. My shepherd (long black hair) mix is about 85lb. Lots of people want LARGE dogs. But... story line, and writer prerogative. I'll leave it at that. As for her eating the shoes... ) Mine ate a cell phone... be happy it was only the shoes.

I do want to read the rest of the books. The alternating view points was different, and sometimes funny. Alternating from Megan, to Brigit, to the bad guy. It was interesting.
